It is rare to find a hotel that is completely as it looks on the website but villa d'orta was exactly that and did not disappoint in any way. The views are stunning from the front of the hotel so book a sea view room. It is family run by the two brothers who never tire of helping from running to our taxi with a brolly when we arrived in pouring rain to decaff caffe lattes made to our exact requirements any time. The rooms are a good size with a lovely sized balcony (we were in room 315) and immaculately clean as is the whole hotel. Breakfast is good with a varied choice and evening meals at 15 euros per person for 3 courses were great value and simply prepared traditional Italian fayre. The town is a good 15 mins walk downhill and quite a breathtaking one back up but there is a regular bus for just over a euro and a shuttle bus from the hotel a few times a day. You just need to plan your trips out to coincide. I would have liked to be able to buy a snack rather than a full meal sometimes so maybe this could be investigated. The only negative is noise from the adjoining rooms but we were lucky to have 4 of our 6 nights without neighbours. For a 3 star hotel it was amazing!
